Proofreading and Editing
This course is a "must do" for anyone who writes or is asked to proofread and / or edit work documents.
The Proofreading and Editing course is designed to provide participants with proofreading and editing skills so they will:
Understand the principles of Proofreading
- using spell and grammar checks
- where punctuation fits in
- what you should be looking for
- does it all make sense
Understand the principles of Editing (and why it is different to Proofreading)
- presentation
- structure
- style
The Proofreading and Editing course is a hands-on skill based program. Our experienced and qualified ics instructors use an original blend of teaching and presentation techniques, including assement of different styles of written material, group exercises, group discussion/brainstorming and application to your work-related material.
What can you expect?
By the end of this course you will understand what is required to be competent in:
Proofreading skills
- spelling
- grammar
- setting your computer for industry relevant spell and grammar checks
- ensuring punctuation is used accurately
- checking for non-discriminatory or sexist writing
- checking language is appropriate for the audience
- using the correct language and tone
Editing skills
- consistency in writing styles
- headings, subheadings, underlining, highlighting
- using your computer for Tables of Contents and Indexes
- use of white space
- formats for different types of documents
Participants receive comprehensive course notes and a bank of skills and resources to practise and use every day.
This program is usually conducted in one day, however we can tailor programs to meet your needs.
